Filipino-American Spirit, Inc. (FAS), is organized under the Non-Profit Organization Act of North Carolina and will operate exclusively for charitable and educational purposes and in a manner consistent with Chapter 55A of the General Statutes of North Carolina and Section 501 (c) (3) or a similar section of any future provisions of the Internal Revenue Code.

Our Mission is two-fold:

  1. To assist the poor and disadvantaged domestically and internationally
  2. To provide education in the areas of history, language, arts, and culture

The purposes of the organization are charitable, educational and cultural.

FAS aims to work with organizations, groups and individuals in NC and SC to support various activities, events, projects, programs, sponsorships, etc. whose purposes are aligned with those of FAS. As a tax exempt organization, FAS can generate funding for these projects through fund raising events, solicitation of grants and tax deductible/tax exempt public donations.

Over the past three years, FAS has accomplished the following projects: 1) Provided emergency funds totaling to over $12,000 for the victims of the Bohol Earthquake and Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines in 2013 through Catholic Relief Services, Doctors Without Borders, ANCOP Foundation and Gawad Kalinga Foundation; 2) Provided funding for furnishing a school building at the Carolina I ANCOP Village in Nagtipunan, Quirino Province ($500) and repairs of existing homes damaged by typhoons ($2,000); 3) Supported two Student Scholarship programs through ANCOP/Couples for Christ ($800); 4) Initiated the opening of Eskwelahang Munti for the school year 2013-2014 through grants, registration fees and donations. ($5,000); and 6) Launched the Philippine Resource Center with the opening of a Filipiniana Library section at the Asian Library in Charlotte which currently holds 150 books donated by community members. FAS also conducted workshop on generational gaps among Filipino-Americans and poetry workshop.

Currently approved projects include:

  • Construction of a Water System for the Carolinas I ANCOP Village (Target amount – $20,000)
  • Scholarship grant to a college student in 2016 (Target amount – $2,000)
  • Continued expansion of the Filipiniana Library
